Addi lived a Big Beautiful Life with unparalleled passion and purpose. She was community oriented and is a beloved member of the Essex Fire Department Family. Her call sign is 15A1. She tracked all calls and was happiest when she was near “my firefighters” or heard that they were safe back in quarters. Essex Fire also named a Fire Truck after her. Like Addi, Addi’s Engine (Engine 2) is all wheel drive and takes anything life has to throw at it. Addi’s Engine symbolizes courage, devotion and resilience and reminds people to take care of each other. It will keep our community and Addi’s fire brothers & sisters safe for years to come.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Fire girl, 15A1. Miss Addison 'Addi' Carroll passed peacefully in the arms of her parents, Ian and Tammy Carroll, on June 10th at Boston Children's Hospital.
Until we meet again....We think about you always, we talk about you still. You have never been forgotten, and you never will. We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain, to walk and guide us through our lives until we meet again.

"Be a little more kind in the world, If we had more people like Addi, we would have a lot less problems.”
- Chief Charles Cole
When the volunteer firefighters of Essex Fire Department in Vermont responded to a call, they knew a young girl in their community was thinking of them and waiting for their safe return. They can just look at their newest fire engine if they ever need reminding of her presence and support. The truck is named “Addi’s Engine,” but it was Addi’s long before it was officially put into service in late 2020.

Following a celebration of life full with firefighter traditions, Addi,15A1 (now forever 12 years old) gets a last dispatch call on the radio and a final alarm bell followed by a reception with all family and friends at the Essex Fire Station (Vermont) on Thursday June 30th, 2022.
Addi often needed to be isolated for protection from germs. Her Essex Fire family still did everything they could to make sure she knew that she was not alone.
